Dogs + Surgical Conditions

  • Ectropion is an abnormality of the eyelids in which the lower eyelid "rolls" outward or is everted. This causes the lower eyelids to appear "droopy".

  • Entropion is an abnormality of the eyelids in which the eyelid "rolls" inward. This inward rolling often causes the hair on the surface of the eyelid to rub against the cornea (outer part of the eyeball) resulting in pain, corneal ulcers or corneal erosions.

  • The elbow joint is made up of 3 separate bones, the radius, the ulna, and the humerus. Developmental abnormalities may occur in the elbow joint, mostly in medium and large breed dogs.

  • A hematoma is a localized mass of blood that is confined within an organ or tissue. A hematoma is sometimes referred to as a "blood blister." The most common type of hematoma in the dog is that affecting the pinna or ear flap. This is called an aural or ear hematoma.

  • The diaphragm is the muscular partition that separates the abdomen and the chest. Tearing or disruption of this thin muscle is called a diaphragmatic hernia or diaphragmatic rupture. The terms can be used synonymously.

  • An umbilical hernia is a protrusion (outward bulging) of the abdominal lining, abdominal fat or a portion of abdominal organ(s) through the area around the umbilicus (navel or belly button).

  • Hip dysplasia is a deformity of the hip that occurs during growth. The hip joint is a "ball and socket" joint. During growth both the "ball" (the head of the femur or thighbone) and the "socket" in the pelvis (acetabulum) must grow at equal rates.

  • Dogs are curious by nature. They love to investigate new sights, smells and tastes. Unfortunately, this curiosity can lead them into trouble. Dogs are notorious for swallowing paper, tissues, articles of clothing, sticks, wicker, bones, food wrappers, rocks, and other foreign objects. Many of these objects will pass through the intestinal tract without problem.

  • Caesarean Sections in Dogs - Post Operative Instructions

Su perro ha sido sometido a una intervención de cirugía mayor. Que tenga una buena recuperación dependerá de que siga recibiendo ciertas atenciones en casa. Su papel en el período de la recuperación es tan importante como la cirugía que acabamos de realizar.

  • Kidney Failure - Chronic in Dogs
