What is Tresaderm?

Tresaderm is a topical otic drop for topical use in dogs and cats in the treatment of otitis externa, ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), and certain superficial bacterial and mycotic skin infections and inflammatory dermatosesantibiotic.

How is Tresaderm given?

Tresaderm is applied topically to the ear canal / skin.

What if I miss giving my pet the medication?

If you miss a dose, give it when you remember, but if it is close to the time for the next dose, skip the dose you missed and give it at the next scheduled time, and return to the regular dosing schedule. Never give your pet two doses at once or give extra doses.

Are there any risk factors for this medication?

Tresaderm is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Neomycin. Prolonged or repeated use of antibiotics may result in superinfection by resistant organisms. Distributes to milk; use with caution in lactating patients. Topical administration of aminoglycosides should be avoided or used with caution in patients with ruptured or unknown ear-status membranes. Ototoxicity may be influenced by patient age and treatment duration. Ototoxicity was observed when used in the ears of 2- or 3-week old kittens, and more severe cochlear damage and hearing loss was observed in guinea pigs with continued application to the middle ear.

Are there any drug interactions I should be aware of?

Interactions with other drugs not expected due to lack of significant systemic absorption

Be sure to tell your veterinarian about any medications (including vitamins, supplements, or herbal therapies) that your pet is taking.

Is there any monitoring that needs to be done with this medication?

Monitor for response to therapy. Reassess if improvement is not seen.

How do I store Tresaderm?

Tresaderm should be stored in the refrigerator at 36-46°F.

What should I do in case of emergency?

If you suspect an overdose or an adverse reaction to the medication, call your veterinary office immediately. If they are not available, follow their directions in contacting an emergency facility.
