What is Cefpodoxime?
Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin. It is an antibiotic used to treat various infections.
How is Cefpodoxime given?
It should be given orally as directed.
What if I miss giving my pet the medication?
We recommend waiting to give your pet their next dose at the next scheduled time.
Are there any potential side effects?
In dogs, the most common reported adverse effects are GI signs including decreased appetite, diarrhea and vomiting.
Are there any risk factors for this medication?
A reduced dose should be used in patients with kidney disease.
Are there any drug interactions I should be aware of?
There is increased toxicity to the kidneys if used with the drug class aminoglycosides.
Be sure to tell your veterinarian about any medications (including vitamins, supplements, or herbal therapies) that your pet is taking.
Is there any monitoring that needs to be done with this medication?
No monitoring is necessary.
How do I store Cefpodoxime?
Store at room temperature.
What should I do in case of emergency?
If you suspect an overdose or an adverse reaction to the medication, call your veterinary office immediately (518-669-5333). If they are not available, follow their directions in contacting an emergency facility.
