What is Latanoprost?
Latanoprost ophthalmic is an eye drop that reduces the intraocular pressure (IOP) by increasing uveoscleral outflow.
How is Latanoprost given?
It is given by dropping 1 drop in the eye.
What if I miss giving my pet the medication?
We recommend waiting to give your pet their next dose at the next scheduled time.
Are there any potential side effects?
It may cause blepharospasm (blinking of the eyes), epiphora (tearing), conjunctival hyperemia (redness of the white part of the eye), discomfort and small pupil size.
Are there any risk factors for this medication?
It should be used with caution in patients with a history of intraocular inflammation (iritis/uveitis).
Are there any drug interactions I should be aware of?
If your pet is receiving additional eye medications, they should always to administered a least 5 minutes apart to avoid interactions between the medications and to ensure that each one is absorbed correctly.
Be sure to tell your veterinarian about any medications (including vitamins, supplements, or herbal therapies) that your pet is taking.
Is there any monitoring that needs to be done with this medication?
Your pet’s intraocular pressure should be monitored as advised by your veterinarian.
How do I store Latanoprost?
Store the opened bottle at room temperature.
What should I do in case of emergency?
If you suspect an overdose or an adverse reaction to the medication, call your veterinary office immediately (518-446-9171). If they are not available, follow their directions in contacting an emergency facility.
