What is “TRANSDERMAL AMLODIPINE”?

• Amlodipine is a Dihydropyridine (DHP) calcium channel blocker used for management of systemic hypertension in dogs and cats as well as for management of certain heart diseases. When given transdermally, it is absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream, usually by application on the front of the ear flap.

How is “TRANSDERMAL AMLODIPINE” given?

• Transdermal amlodipine is applied to the front surface of the ear flap using the provided applicator.

What if I miss giving my pet the medication?

• If you miss a dose of transdermal amlodipine, resume dosing at the next scheduled interval.

Are there any potential side effects?

• Side effects vary among individuals. Side effects include low blood pressure, gingival hyperplasia, and
occasionally mild vomiting.

Are there any risk factors for this medication?

• This medication should be avoided in patients with cardiogenic shock, severe hepatic failure, or with
allergy to the medication.

Are there any drug interactions I should be aware of?

• Patients receiving this medication with certain cardiac medications, anti fungal medications, and seizure medications may require dose adjustments.

Be sure to tell your veterinarian about any medications (including vitamins, supplements, or herbal therapies) that your pet is taking.

Is there any monitoring that needs to be done with this medication?

• Patients receiving this medication should have their blood pressure monitored regularly.

How do I store “TRANSDERMAL AMLODIPINE”?

• Transdermal amlodipine should be stored according to package instructions, typically at room temperature.

What should I do in case of emergency?

If you suspect an overdose or an adverse reaction to the medication, call your veterinary office immediately. If they are not available, follow their directions in contacting an emergency facility.
